Stripping out the fluff in favor of a functional channel created both a UI and a design nightmare. AOL wanted to compete with likes of Priceline and Expedia yet still remain loyal to the backend technologies that served their other content channels.
To take advantage of the minimal 500x300px of screen real estate I had to work with, I created a split screen view that catered to both the content and shopping audiences. Hiding functionality under "tabs" allowed the channel to feel as robust as other sites at the time and also catered to AOL's limitations. |
